Wtf do you like – a weapon against algorithmic bubbles
This project was born from the awareness of how recommendation algorithms shape our daily access to information.
By filtering and repeating content, according to our interests, these systems create bubbles that polarize opinions and narrow perspectives. We questioned this logic and decided to design from within it, turning its own mechanics into a tool for plurality rather than confinement.
The artifact we propose is a digital “weapon” that fights against the desirable pattern the algorithm builds about us. Concretely, it takes the form of a shared web portal, where users from different parts of the world log in with common accounts. Each participant carries with them their own algorithmic history and personal bias, which, combined with the geographical location from which they connect, radically diversifies the recommendations generated.
So, in this way, the algorithm is forced to register diverse interests, producing recommendations that are more varied and less predictable. Instead of reinforcing the same perspective over and over, the system is bent to expose contradictions and contrasts, opening the possibility for more critical reflection.
Through this act, the project makes visible the invisible control of algorithms and challenges their authority over our cultural and social perception. It is an act of defense and of attack: peaceful in its method, but disruptive in its intent. The goal is to transform the recommendation into an ecosystem where difference becomes intentional practice, and where access to multiple viewpoints weakens the power of manipulation.
